Virginia Beach, V.A. ---The Roanoke College baseball team lost both games (1-10), (0-7) to Virginia Wesleyan College on Saturday in ODAC doubleheader action. The Maroons fell to 9-15, 4-6 in the ODAC. The Marlins improved to 16-9-1 overall, and 6-3 in the ODAC.
Sophomores Graham Thacker and Alan Moore had two hits apiece in the doubleheader. Moore hit his sixth double of the season and tallied the lone run of the day. Also collecting a hit apiece were Brennan Thacker, Chris Zachodzki,and Matt Vess. B. Thacker tallied six assists in the doubleheader and broke the school's career assist record with 299, passing Mike Eubank (296).
Barrett Henderson (1-4) and Chris Caputo (4-1)pitched 7.2 innings in game one to strike out a combined three batters. Henderson, although given the loss, allowed no walks while Caputo allowed only one. Pitcher Drew Wallace (2-3), credited with the loss in game two of the doubleheader, struck out four batters in his third complete game of the season.
The Marlin offense was led by Nally who had three RBI and one run off of three hits. The designated hitter, Marion, went 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored in the second contest. Freeman struck out seven batters in the game one win while Bulman struck out four in five innings to win game two.
Roanoke will host Southern Virginia on Monday, March 31, at Kiwanis Field. Game time is scheduled for 7:30pm. The Knights are 10-14 on the season. The Maroons lead the series 3-2. Roanoke will return to ODAC play on Tuesday to host Guilford College at Kiwanis Field at 7:00pm. The Quakers are 14-14 overall and 4-6 in the ODAC. The Quakers lead the series 4-7.
