Roanoke Baseball Gives Up Late Runs to Fall to Ferrum, 9-1 on Thursday
SALEM - The Roanoke baseball team gave up the go-ahead run in the fourth and Ferrum notched seven more runs in the final three innings to defeat the Maroons, 9-1 on Thursday.

With the loss in their home opener, the Maroons fall to 0-4 on the season, while the Panthers picked up their first win for a 1-1 record in 2012.

The Maroons jumped on the board early as senior shortstop Ben Amos crushed a two out home run over the scoreboard in left to take the 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first.

Ferrum responded with runs in the second and third, and then scored seven more runs in the final three innings off nine hits.

Amos went three-for-four with a single, double, homer and one RBI.  Robbie Scott, Gavin Pellitteri and Michael Williams each had a hit to their credit on the day.

For the Panthers, Eddie McGrath, Taryn Hayden and Brennen Iley each finished with three hits.  Hayden, Iley, Wes Walker and Jason Parker finished the contest with two runs a piece.

The Maroons return to action on Saturday, February 11th as they travel to Bristol, Va. to face Virginia Intermont in a double-header.  The first pitch is scheduled for 12:00 PM.
