Roanoke fell to Eastern Mennonite, 8-2 in Field Hockey Action
HARRISONBURG, Va. --- Roanoke College fell to Eastern Mennonite, 8-2 in its ODAC-opener this afternoon. The Maroons dropped to 0-4 on the season while the Royals improved to 2-4.
 
Eastern Mennonite, who out-shot Roanoke, 31-6, also had a 13-3 advantage on penalty corners. The Royals scored the first four goals of the contest as they would control the tempo early.
 
Roanoke scored its first goal of the game as Jessica Perkins (Abington, PA, Abington)found Kathryn Baker (Locust Grove, VA, Orange County High School)for his first of her career just before the half with a 4-1 deficit heading into the locker room.
 
Just a minute after and EMU goal with eight minutes elapsed in the second half, Alex Broadbent (Pisgah Forest, NC, Carolina Day)scored off a penalty corner from Abby Bjork (Westborough, MA, Westborough)to make it, 5-2.
 
The Royals scored the final three goals, including two from Alyssa Derstine to give her four on the afternoon. She also added an assist in their second win of the season.
 
Becky Nolt had four saves for Eastern Mennonite while Roanoke's Cristina Scichilone (South Yarmouth, MA, Nauset Regional)finished with eight.
 
The women will travel this weekend to Maryland to battle both Stevenson (Sat.) and Frostburg St. (Sun.). Game time for both days is scheduled for noon.
