Maroons Fall in 2OT Thriller To Swarthmore in Cregger Classic Championship Game
SALEM � The Roanoke College men's basketball team fell in the championship game of the 2015 Cregger Classic on Saturday, losing in a double overtime battle against Swarthmore, 81-79.� The Maroons now have a record of 6-5, while the Garnet also hold an overall mark of 6-5 on the season.

Daniel Eacho and Cameron Smith were named to the All-Tournament team for their performance over the course of the two-day classic.� Eacho finished the weekend with 42 points and 16 rebounds, while Smith tallied 21 points and 13 rebounds in the tournament.

Eacho led the Maroons with 22 points against Swarthmore, going 7-15 from the field and hitting a 8-12 mark from the free throw line. He has now crossed the 1,100 career point threshold, sitting with 1,108 points, 10 points shy of tying Jared Butler '06 for 25th all-time with 1,118 points.

�Joey Miller scored a career high 13 points on 3-6 shooting, going 2-4 from behind the arc.� His previous best was nine points against EMU on December 4th.� Cameron Smith was the final Maroon in double-figures, finishing with 12 points.� He also tied Julian Ramirez for the team lead in rebounds, pulling down eight boards each.�� Ramirez was one assist shy of tying his career high, as he dished out nine assists during the contest.� Ramirez now has 320 assists for his career, where he is sixth all-time at Roanoke College.

Roanoke entered the locker room at half with a three point advantage over the Garnet.� Eacho led all players in the period with 11 points off 5-9 shooting.� Roanoke jumped out to a 12 point advantage in the first four minutes of the second half off of a 9-0 run by the Maroons.� Ramirez and Eacho started the scoring with two-point baskets, then Smith followed with five consecutive points to put the Maroons ahead 44-32.� The two teams traded baskets back and forth, as Roanoke still held a ten point advantage with 12:13 to play, ahead 50-40.� But it was Swarthmore's Sam Lebryk who got hot in the middle of the period, scoring eight consecutive points for the Garnet including two back-to-back three pointers, cutting the Roanoke lead to two points, 50-48.

Joey Miller helped the Maroons maintain their lead by hitting three free-throws and a big trey to increase the lead back to six, 58-52 with 7:11 to play.� After more alternating baskets made by both teams, Lebryk came up strong again for the Garnet, scoring seven of Swarthmore's final nine points in a 9-2 run, that tied the game at 64-64, sending the game into the first overtime period.

The initial overtime was a low scoring affair for the two teams.� Zack Yonda opened the scoring for Swarthmore hitting a layup at 3:43.� Just a few seconds later, Roanoke re-tied the game when Eacho knocked down a pair of free throws.� After a Lebryk free throw, Smith hit a layup for the Maroons, followed by a free throw from Ramirez to put Roanoke up by two with 21 seconds to play.� However, Lebryk hit another jumper in the final second to go to a second overtime.

The first four minutes of the second overtime were dominated by two players, one for each team.� Zack Yonda got the Garnet out to a four point, 73-69 lead in the first minute and a half of the second overtime.� Eacho hit five free throws through the 1:27 mark to get the Maroons back within one, 75-74.� Yonda would convert all of an old-fashioned three point play, with 1:15 on the clock to put Swarthmore up by four, 78-74.� But, it was Andrew Daniels who knocked down a three pointer with a minute to play to pull within one.� Ramirez gave Roanoke the lead with a layup with 27 seconds on the clock.� Roanoke had Swarthmore trailing through the final seconds until Andrew Kaufmann hit a three pointer with five seconds left to seal the contest for Swarthmore.� The Maroons put up one final shot that bounced in an out, as Roanoke fell 81-79 in double overtime.

Swarthmore was led by Lebryk, who finished with 24 points, 9-12 from the field with 5-7 coming from behind the arc.� Yonda tallied 18 points, and tied Karl Barkley and Robbie Walsh with a team high seven rebounds each.� Walsh and Chris Bourne each tallied 12 points apiece in the win for the Garnet.

Swarthmore narrowly edged the Maroons in overall shooting, 45.1 to 40.6 percent from the field, but the Maroons led behind the arc 36.4 to 29.6 percent.� Roanoke also led at the free throw line 62.5 to 60.0 percent.� Roanoke pulled down 49 rebounds to Swarthmore's 42, and led in assists 19-18.

The Maroons return to action on Wednesday, January 7th as they play host to Guilford at 7:30 PM in the Bast Center in ODAC action.
