Men's Soccer splits games at Stevens Tech College Cup this Weekend
HOBOKEN, N.J. - The men's soccer team defeated Kean, 3-2 and fell to Stevens Tech, 2-1 over the weekend at the Stevens Tech College Cup at the DeBaun Athletic Complex. The Maroons, who are #13 in the country, are 3-1 on the year.

Roanoke defeated Kean, 3-2 on Friday afternoon to start the weekend. Kean (1-1-2) suffered its first loss of the season as Drew Claytor (Greensboro, NC, Grimsley) dished out two assists in the victory for the Maroons. Chris Conover (Dagsboro, DE, Indian River), Brian White (Virginia Beach, VA, First Colonial) and Chris Vail (Vinton, VA, William Byrd) all scored for Roanoke.

Tournament-host Stevens Institute of Technology scored a big home victory over the Maroons (3-1-0) Saturday evening in the final game of the Stevens Tech College Cup. The win ended a 12-game unbeaten streak for Roanoke.

Action began early with the two sides trading goals in the game's opening 15 minutes. Both scores came on headers directly off of free kicks, with the Ducks taking the lead on a touch from Anthony Roden served in by Zach Bowman on a free kick 10:03 into the match.

The Maroons answered five minutes later, as Lambert laid the ball in the box for Conover to put in the back of the net to tie the contest.

The Ducks snapped the tie in the 72nd minute and held off the Maroons to win the game. Roanoke had an opportunity to tie the game with Carl Leist (Christiansburg, VA, Christiansburg) crossing pass deep in the box, but the Ducks goalkeeper intercepted the ball with 20 seconds to go.

Stevens outshot the Maroons 11-6 and both squads ended with two corner kicks apiece.

The men will return home on Wednesday, Sept. 14 as they host Lynchburg in their ODAC-opener. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Kerr Stadium.
