Scott Allison Earns Career Win 300 as the Maroons Defeat Guilford, 2-1 on Tuesday
SALEM - Roanoke College men's soccer coach, Scott Allison, earned his 300th career victory with the Maroons' 2-1 victory over Guilford College on Tuesday Night

Already the program and conference all-time wins leader, Allison has been on the RC sidelines for 27 seasons. Over his career at Roanoke, he has guided his teams to seven ODAC Championships and five NCAA Tournament Appearances while developing six NSCAA All-Americans. With tonight's win, Allison became the 21st active coach in NCAA Div. III history reach the 300-win plateau.

The Maroons now have a record of 4-3, 2-1 ODAC, while the Quakers sit with a 4-5, 1-2 ODAC mark. Roanoke now holds a 26-5-1 all-time record against Guilford College, having won eight of the last ten meetings between the two teams.

Roanoke opened up the scoring 30 minutes into the contest as Mark Strelow found the back of the net to give the Maroons a 1-0 lead. Strelow scored the goal off save by MacVane of Guilford. Guilford almost responded with an equalizer at the end of the first half as Greg Carnovale took a shot off of a deflection and hit the post, nearly tying the game.

Guilford squared the contest away at 1-1, during the 56th minute when the Quaker's Freddy Gomez was awarded a penalty kick in which he was successful. With about 23 minutes to play, Roanoke was also granted a penalty kick after a collision in the box. AJ Tierce took the kick for the Maroons, low and centered, and into the goal, to give Roanoke the final 2-1 lead.

Roanoke outshot the Quakers 16-12, while the Quakers held the edge in corners kicks, 9-6. Guilford's Freddy Gomez, led all players in shots with six, while Garrett Eldridge led the Maroons in shots with three, all on goal. Cole Sinclair played all 90 minutes in goal for Roanoke and tallied four saves, while allowing one goal.

The Maroons return to ODAC action on Friday, September 28th as the Maroons host Hampden-Sydney during Roanoke College family weekend. The contest is scheduled for a 7:00 PM start.
