FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. --- Roanoke scored with 12 minutes left in regulation and held on to a 1-0 victory over tournament-host Methodist in the Soccer for a Cure Classic Saturday afternoon. The Maroons improved to 2-1 on the season while the Monarchs dropped to 1-3 overall.
Steph Parenteau scored her fourth goal of the season late in the contest to give the Maroons their second-straight win. Lindsay Kooiman had a diving save that would have tied the game with five minutes remaining as they held on for a win over a strong south region opponent.
The Maroons outshot the Monarchs, 13-11, but had 11 shots on goal to only five by Methodist. Roanoke totaled five corner kicks, including four in the second half. Methodist had three on the afternoon.
Kooiman finished with five saves to earn her second-straight shutout. MU's Kasey Nichols ended up with nine saves.
The women will take on another USA-South Conference opponent Greensboro College tomorrow with game time starting at 4 p.m.
