Roanoke Places Seven on 2010 All-ODAC Women's Soccer Team
Roanoke College had seven women's soccer players named on this year's All-ODAC Team announced this afternoon. Jessica Welfare (Roanoke, VA, Hidden Valley) was named to the first-team, while Rebekah Adams (Springfield, VA, West Springfield) and Maya Kantor (New City, NY, Clarkstown) were tabbed second-team honors. Stephanie Parenteau (Virginia Beach, VA, Kellam), Lindsay Kooiman (Fredricksburg, VA, Mountain View), McKenzie Garst (Roanoke, VA, Cave Spring) and Paige Gaeng (Frederick, MD, Thomas Johnson).
Welfare, a team captain for the Maroons this season, earned First-Team All-ODAC honors for the fourth-straight season. A three-time NSCAA All-South Region selection, she finished third in scoring (15pts), goals (6) and assists (3). She scored game-winners on three occasions, including a penalty kick in the 1-0 victory against Virginia Wesleyan (10/2). Of her 30 shots on the season, 16 were on goal.
Adams, a sophomore forward, earned her second-straight all-conference honor of her career. She scored nine goals and added four assist for 22 points on the season. Adams led the Maroons in shots (72), shots on goal (42) and game-winners with four. Kantor, a freshman defender, earned all-conference honors with her speed and intensity to win 50/50 balls on a consistent basis. She was part of a defensive unit that produced 11 shutouts on the year, which tied a school-record. Kantor had one goal, six shots and five shots on goal for the year.
Parenteau, a sophomore forward, led the Maroons in goals for the second-straight season with 12. She led the team in points (24) while second in shots on goal with 35. Kooiman, a three-year starter at goalkeeper, led the defense with 11 shutouts, which tied a school-record. She finished the year with 79 saves and a 0.67 goals against average. Gaeng and Garst both earned spots on the all-conference team for the first time in their careers. Garst finished her final collegiate season with three goals and three assists for nine points. She finished the year with 33 shots, 21 on goal. Gaeng, a three-year starter, has started in every game since transferring to Roanoke as a sophomore. The Maroons finished 13-4-3, including the programs' second undefeated conference mark with a 9-0-2 record. Below is a complete list of the 2010 Women's Soccer All-ODAC Team.
