The alumni scored first as former All-ODAC player McKenzie Garst '11 assisted on last year's team captain, Jamie Johnston's '12 goal and went into the half with a 1-0 advantage.
The current RC team came out in the second half and tied the contest as two-time All-ODAC selection Steph Parenteau '13 scored to make things interesting the rest of the contest. Sara Valero '15 scored the eventual game-winner for the Maroons.
The Maroons finished the 2011 season with a 14-5-2 record and the programs' third trip to the NCAA Tournament. They fell to #22 Centre, 8-7 in penalty kicks in the first round of the national tournament. It was the programs' second post-season appearance in four years. The team also gave the 27-year old program its 300th victory last fall, which includes 21 seasons of 10 wins or more.
Any success we've had is in no small way attributed to the generosity of our alumni, our parents, alumni parents, and friends. For those of you that are interested to give this year, I urge you to consider a gift to the Maroon Club. Let's continue to support our women's soccer program as we continue to strive on becoming a national contender!
Be sure to stay tuned for the announcement of the 2012 fall schedule of the women's soccer program! For more information on the Maroon Club, please visit our website at www.roanoke.edu/maroonclub, or email maroonclub@roanoke.edu.
