The Maroons will take on Centre College (14-4-2) from Kentucky on Saturday, Nov. 12 at 7:30 p.m. following sectional host Emory (15-0-2) vs. Great South Athletic Conference Champion, Piedmont (17-2-1). Centre finished third overall in the SCAC behind only No. 3 Trinity and Birmingham Southern. The Colonels advanced to the championship match of the conference tournament but fell 4-0 to Trinity. This will be Centre's second appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The Colonels fell 1-0 to Denison in the first round of their first appearance in 2008.
Emory University enters the NCAA Tournament with an undefeated mark including a 6-0-1 conference record. Currently ranked the #5 team in the nation, Emory underwent its first-ever undefeated regular season this year shutting out their opponents a record 14 times. The Eagles advanced to the Elite Eight of the national tournament in 2010 and have made six appearances in the Sweet 16 of the postseason event.
Phil Benne, the programs' winningest head coach with 266 victories in 23 seasons, has guided the Maroons to all three post-season appearances. His teams have had six-straight seasons with 10 wins or more, which included program milestone win #300 this fall.
Carmen Graves (9g, 3a) leads the team in scoring with 21 points, including five game-winners. She has been named ODAC Player of the Week over the final two weeks of the season. Rebekah Adams (6g, 5a) has scored 17 points, followed by Steph Parenteau (5g, 5a) and Cindy Suttora (5g) with 15 and 10 points, respectively.
Carolyn Sarabacher has stepped up between the posts for Roanoke this fall, collecting 49 saves and posting six shutouts in her first season as a starter. Lone senior captain Jamie Johnston has anchored the backfield, starting in all 16 matches played.
