Graves, Kantor make 2011 Women's Soccer VaSID All-State Team
Junior Carmen Graves and sophomore Maya Kantor earned a spot on the 2011 Women's Soccer VaSID College Division All-State Team announced this week. Both players were garnered first-team recognition.

Graves, a First-Team All-ODAC selection this fall, earned this honor for the second-straight season. A two-sport athlete at Roanoke, she is a member of the women's track & field team where she was named ODAC Athlete of the Year last spring. The midfielder, led the Maroons in scoring after netting nine goals this season, five of which were game-winners. She also assisted in three other goals to accumulate 21 total points on the year. Graves was named ODAC Women's Soccer Player of the Week in two consecutive weeks (10/24 - 10/31) after scoring five goals in that span.

Kantor, a sophomore, anchored the backfield for the women's soccer team in her second season as a starter. The 5-2 defender had her only assist and shot on goal of the season against Randolph-Macon in the 3-0 win (10/22). The two-time First-Team All-ODAC selection registered a season-best three shots, all in the second half against nationally-ranked Lynchburg (10/12). A two-time NSCAA All-South Atlantic Region selection, Kantor led the defensive unit to 12 shutouts this fall.

The Maroons finished the season 14-5-2, including an 8-3 mark in the ODAC. They advanced to the programs third NCAA Appearance in its 27-year history. The others were in 1998 and 2007. They fell to Centre in penalty kicks, 8-7 in the first round of the tournament at Emory University in Atlanta Nov. 12.
