Roanoke Ends Season in ODAC Quarterfinals to Lynchburg, 3-2
ROANOKE, Va. --- Roanoke had a 2-1 lead heading into the fourth set, but couldn't hold on as the Maroons fell to Lynchburg, 3-2 in the ODAC Quarterfinals Friday evening at Hollins Gym. The Maroons ended their season at 21-7 while the Hornets advanced to the semifinals with an 18-11 mark.
The Maroons fell with scores of 29-27, 9-25, 25-22, 18-25 and 15-6. Kelsey Largen, who was selected honorable mention All-ODAC, led the women with 12 kills, 12 digs and two aces. Maggie Wagner, which was voted First-Team All-ODAC, finished with six kills, 21 digs and three blocks in her final collegiate match.
Fellow senior team captain Emily Martin totaled 22 digs to lead Roanoke. She capped her career with nearly 1,350 career digs, second on the all-time list for the program.
Nicci Moats had eight kills and a team-best five blocks in her first game back from injury. Rachel Hawkins added seven kills and three blocks while teammate Kylie Lucas chipped in six kills and three blocks. Shannon Stone ended up with 21 assists and eight digs and Bren Wilberger had 12 assists.
The Maroons finished the season, 21-7, 7-3 in the conference. It is Roanoke's third 20-win campaign over the last four years. Led by Trail, all six of the programs' 20-win seasons have come under the 12-year coaching veteran.
The all-time wins leader at Roanoke, Trail is the second winningest active volleyball coach in the ODAC with 224 career victories, trailing only Washington and Lee's Bryan Snyder with 310 victories in 11 seasons.
