Roanoke and Lynchburg battled back and forth through the first four sets, winning alternating games.� In the fifth set, Roanoke jumped out to a 5-0 lead on the serve of Jessica Block.� The Maroons extended that lead out to 8-1.� However, Lynchburg won eight of the next nine points to tie the game at 9-9.� The two teams pushed the tie to 11-11, until the Hornets won the next two points.� Trailing by two, 14-12, Roanoke pulled within one after a kill from Sarah Long.� However, Lynchburg won the next point to pick up the 3-2 win.
Roanoke was led in Kills by Macey Tyree, who put away 14 points on the afternoon.� She was followed in the category by Kylah Blackmore with 10 kills to her credit.� Jessica Block and Alexandra Martin nearly split assists, dishing out 26 and 23, respectively.� The same can be said in terms of digs for the Maroons as Christen Zammit tallied 16 digs, while Martin finished with 15.
The Hornets were led in kills by Aricquel Payne, who finished with 16 for the contest.� Jennifer Garrett also finished in the double-digits in kills, notching 10 in the match.� Lynn Walsh led Lynchburg in assists, dishing out 42 in the effort.� Brittany Crawford picked up 19 digs, while Sam Page finished with 18 digs in the win.
The Maroons return to action on Wednesday, September 24th as they travel to take on Southern Virginia University.� That contest is scheduled for a 7:00 PM start.
